Korea Open: P.V. Sindhu crashes out; Sai Praneeth retires hurt

Both Saina Nehwal and P. Kashyap will start their campaign at the Korea Open today

P.V. Sindhu lost her first match at the Korea Open against Beiwen Zhang of the US at Incheon on Wednesday. Sindhu lost to Zhang 21-7, 24-22, 21-15. After registering a comprehensive win in the first game, Sindhu wilted in the subsequent games.

Sindhu entered the Korea Open after losing in the round of 16 at the China Open. Sindhu held a 5-3 win record against Zhang in their previous matches.

Earlier in the day, India's Sai Praneeth retired hurt against Anders Antonsen of Denmark in the men's section. Praneeth had lost the first game 9-21 and was trailing 7-11 in the second.

Two other singles players from India are due to play later in the day. Saina Nehwal, who has been indifferent form owing to injuries in recent months, will play Kim Ga Eun of South Korea. Nehwal holds a 2-0 win record against Eun in their previous matches.

P. Kashyap will also be in action at the Korea Open on Wednesday. He will take on Lu Chia Hung of Taiwan.

The finals of the Korea Open will be held on September 29.
