Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar said that Mahendra Singh Dhoni's role in the India team is critical during the ICC World Cup that starts in England on Thursday. “Having captained India for long, he understands situations and has that peripheral awareness,” he said.

Tendulkar was speaking to THE WEEK, as part of the World Cup coverage in the latest issue that hits stands Thursday. Writing in an exclusive column, former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly reiterated that M.S. Dhoni's form will be crucial, particularly the way he approaches batting. “His form last year in England was poor, but he is coming out of the IPL in superb touch,” he wrote, adding that India need a game changer in the middle.

The Master Blaster said that the challenges of playing in England is not about the conditions but about sustaining the team's form and momentum.

Tendulkar, who is confident of India entering the semis, feels India, England, Australia and either New Zealand or Pakistan are likely to make it to the last four. He also added that leg spin will be the critical factor in the middle overs for all the teams.
