Spanish champions Barcelona were held to a 0-0 draw at Olympique Lyonnais in their Champions League last-16 first leg on Tuesday.

The La Liga champions had a lot of chances to score as they dominated the match with Lyon putting up a good fight in the first half. Lyon came close as Martin Terrier hit the bar early in the first half. Barca goalkeeper Marc Andre ter Stegen made some great saves to deny the hosts a chance to seal the game in their favour.

Ousmane Dembele nearly gave Barcelona the opportunity to go one up, but was held by Lyon's Anthony Lopes, who has been in terrific form. Barca's best chance came in the last minute with a shot from Sergio Busquet, but was again spoiled by Lopes who tipped the ball over the bar.

Suarez, too, came close to giving Barcelona the upper hand in the second half, with a wide shot from Jordi Alba's cutback. The Spanish league champions wasted away several opportunities to counter attack. Philippe Coutinho, who replaced Dembele, had a clear chance in the later half, but was again denied by Lopes.

Barcelona have now gone six away matches without winning in the Champions League knockout rounds.

The second leg between Lyon and Barcelona will be played at the Nou Camp on March 13.
