World number one Novak Djokovic lifted his seventh Australian Open title with a straight sets win over Rafael Nadal on Sunday. A dominant Djokovic overpowered an off-colour Nadal 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 to secure his 15th grand slam.

Djokovic broke the Spaniard five times and conceded only a single break point to take record seventh title at Melbourne, moving past Roger Federer and Roy Emerson's six titles.

The Serb pummelled through the first two sets after breaking Nadal's first service game to take a 4-1 lead in the opening set. He sealed the first two sets without sweat, but Nadal got an opening as he got a break point in the fifth game of the third set.

Djokovic fended off any and all attack from Nadal as the Spaniard's chances dimmed with the heavy hitting from the Serb. The final failed to live up to their rivalry as a washed out Nadal didn't put up much of a fight.

Djokovic fired a forehand down the line for two championship points, and sealed the third set, winning the title when Nadal sent a backhand long.

This is Djokovic's third consecutive grand slam after winning the Wimbledon and US Open last year.
