Promising young Indian opener Prithvi Shah, who missed the first two Tests against Australia because of an ankle injury, was ruled out of the entire Test series. The 19-year-old had sustained the injury during a practice match earlier this month.

Shaw looked in great touch, scoring a strokeful half-century in the match against Cricket Australia XI. But he hurt his ankle while going for a catch in the deep.

He was expected to be fit in time for the third Test beginning December 26 at Melbourne, but the pain, reportedly, has not subsided. Given India's opening blues in the Two Tests so far, his chances of making the playing XI were bright.

The team management has decided to send him home, and bring in Mayank Agarwal as his replacement.

India lead the four-Test series 1-0, but face an uphill task in the ongoing second Test at Perth, needing 175 more to win on the final day with five wickets in hand.
