Australian spin legend Shane Warne has been appointed to the Marylebone Cricket Club's World Cricket Committee. Warne will be replacing fellow Australian Rod Marsh, who stepped down after six years on the committee.

Warne said that it was an exciting time for cricket and he hoped that he will have plenty to offer in discussion and debate.

“It is an honour to have been asked to be a member of the MCC World Cricket committee,” Warne said in a statement.

The MCC's influential World Cricket Committee is a complementary body to ICC, and discuss changes and issues in cricket. It meets twice a year, and last met at Lord’s on August 6 and 7. The recommendations of the committee have resulted in in innovation including day/night Test cricket and limiting the size of bats.

Warne is the second highest wicket taker in Test cricket history with 708 wickets only behind Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan (800). He retired from international cricket in 2006.
