Brazil's Miranda scored a stoppage-time goal to give his side a 1-0 victory over Argentina, which is missing Lionel Messi, in the friendly match in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

The game, which was set to go to penalties to determine the result, changed course in the 93rd minute when Miranda headed home the winner. Miranda later said that scoring a goal against Argentina is always gratifying and exciting.

Without Messi, Argentina seemed to barely put any pressure in its attack. Messi is said to have asked for some time off from international football.

Brazil had chances to score before Miranda scored his goal. Brazil kept the pressure on Argentina, which displayed a strong defence. Casemiro nearly scored for Brazil with a free-kick that flew past goalkeeper Sergio Romero's left post.

Argentina's best chance came around the hour mark, when Leandro Paredes hit a swerving, dipping drive that had Brazil keeper Alisson beaten. Paulo Dybala went close with a swerving free kick for as well, but missed the mark.

Brazil's Luis Felipe said that his felt tired in the second half, but was happy about scoring the last minute goal and dominating Argentina throughout the match

The defeat was the first in four games for interim coach Lionel Scaloni, who replaced Jorge Sampaoli after the 2018 World Cup.

Argentina and Brazil have officially faced each other 105 times, with Brazil winning 41 matches to Argentina's 38. The rest ended in draws. The South American rivals last met in June 2017 in a friendly, which Argentina won. In their last competitive fixture a World qualifier in November 2016, Brazil had thrashed Argentina 3-0.
