The body of Dinu Alex, a 30-year-old Argentina fan who left home after the team's loss in its group match against Croatia, was fished out of Meenachal river in Kottayam district.
Dinu, who had been upset over Argentina's poor showing in the World Cup, had left his house near Arumanoor on Friday after leaving a suicide note, the police had said.
Dinu, an ardent fan of the South American team, wrote in his suicide note that he was going to end his life following Argentina's 0-3 shock defeat to Croatia. Argentina has just one point from two games so far in the World Cup in Russia.
Following his disappearance, police and fire force personnel had been searching the Meenachal river and the surrounding area near Dinu's house.
After Dinu went missing, his father told police that his son was a great fan of Lionel Messi, Argentina's captain, and may not have been able to bear the loss.
