With the Supreme Court convicting V.K.Sasikala and others in the disproportionate assets case, the mood inside the Golden Bay resort in Koovathur continues to remain tense. On Monday night, Sasikala went on to stay at the resort along with her family and the 119 MLAs supporting her.
Sources inside Koovathur said that Sasikala, who used to make daily visits to the resort where she met the MLAs and later returned to Poes Garden, chose to stay back in the resort on Monday evening.
Sources confirmed that she looked a little tensed when she arrived and that there was also a visible change in the way she talked. Her eyes were watery and she broke down when she addressed the MLAs. Later in the evening, she was seen sitting with few women MLAs and ministers in the lawn.
Though the MLAs looked happy and relaxed, sources said most them were in a mood to flee from the resort and there was a fear of captivity. In fact, Madurai South MLA Saravanan, who fled from the resort to join the OPS camp, said, “I was gripped by fear and I decided to escape before Sasikala could reach there.” He escaped from the resort in disguise.
However, sources say that after the verdict, Sasikala was in constant discussion with party seniors like PWD minister Edappadai Palanisamy and K.A.Sengottaiyan. Sources also say that Sasikala and the Mannargudi family have now decided to pick and choose a senior to lead the legislative party.
Meanwhile, the 2500 police personnel on duty near the Koovathur resort have tightened the security. The special task force who were deployed a few meters away from the resort have reportedly rushed into the resort to bring out all the 119 MLAs held captive inside.
On the other hand, it was happy mood at OPS residence on the Greenways road — replete with celebrations and sweet distribution.
