Last meeting of current CWC to be held tomorrow

8 (File) Even as the stage is set for the meet, there are speculations on who will make it to the reconstituted committee

The Congress Working Committee (CWC) will meet on Saturday to decide on the dates and venue of the plenary session of the AICC to ratify the election of Rahul Gandhi as party president.

The meeting on Saturday will be the last meeting of the present CWC, which has been renamed as the steering committee for the plenary session, as per the party's constitution.

According to party sources, the session is likely to be convened before the Budget session of Parliament resumes on March 5. This is the only window for the AICC session to be held, as in April, campaigning for the assembly elections in Karnataka will pick up pace.

The session is likely to be held in Mohali, as the party would be keen to hold the meet in a Congress-ruled state. Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had met Rahul in Delhi recently, and there was a speculation that the meeting was with regard to holding of the session in Punjab.

Even as the stage is set for the meet, there are speculations on who will make it to the reconstituted committee—the highest decision making body of the Congress—and the manner of reconstitution. Rahul has, in the past, said he wants elections to be held at all levels of the Congress, and he might press for election of members to the new CWC. Sonia Gandhi, as Congress president, had preferred to nominate members to the CWC.
