A 24-year-old has been arrested by the Lucknow police for killing his mother and five sisters inside a hotel room in the Naka area of Lucknow on Wednesday. Police identified the accused as Arshad, who was taken into custody from the crime scene.

Police said Arshad killed his mother and five sisters, two of them minors, in Hotel Sharanjit. The deceased were Alia (9), Alshia (19), Aksa (16) and Rahmeen (18) -- all sisters of Arshad. The fifth is Asma, the mother of the accused.

The bodies were found inside room number 109 of the hotel with their wrists slashed. There were signs of injuries on some bodies, hinting that they could have been smothered. "Based on these marks, statements from witnesses and the post-mortem report, we are conducting a detailed investigation into the matter," he added.

The family reportedly checked into the hotel on the night of 31st December 2024. There are also reports that Arshad's father was also with them. He is missing and Arshad is said to have told the police that he committed the murders with his father's aid.

Meanwhile, local media reports said that the accused made a video after committing the murder, where he showed his dead mother and sisters. In the rambling video, Arshad's father is seen with him.

He is also seen making serious allegations against the people of the colony where he resides, reported Amar Ujala. In the rambling video, Arshad claims to have done the deed out of helplessness caused by "the harrassement of people from my colony. "We have killed our mother and sister with our own hands. The people of the colony are responsible for this," he alleged, adding that the residents of the colony had committed many atrocities to snatch their house. "When we raised out voice, none listened to us. We have been wandering for the past 10-15 days in the cold," he said.

He also accused a few people in his colony of orchestrating to "sell the women in our family", after which they decided to kill them.

Meanwhile, Jagran reported that a letter purportedly written by Arshad's father Bader is doing rounds on social media. In the letter, he urges the police, Chief Minister and the Prime Minister to ensure the safety of his family. Citing religious reasons, Bader also alleges that people in his locality threw bricks and stones at his house. They beat him and threatened to kill him, Bader alleges. He said his family is saddened and troubled as the police did not take any action against the accused.
