The Uttar Pradesh police have apprehended a teenager in connection with the death of his mother on Tuesday. The class 11 student, son of an assistant scientist at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, initially misled his family that his mother died in an accident and later confessed to the crime.
According to Gorakhpur police, the woman apparently died on December 3 and her body was recovered only five days later, on December 7, as the teenager kept misleading his father and other family members that his mother was ‘busy’. Though the teenager initially said she died in an accident, he later confessed following police interrogation.
According to police, the deceased woman had an argument with her son in Class 11 on December 3 over his studies. The juvenile has reportedly asked his mother for some cash and the mother reportedly threw cash at him, police said. According to police, in a fit of rage, the teenager pushed the mother against the wall and left the home. When he returned home in the evening on that day, the juvenile found his mother dead and he left home, police said.
However, the incident came to light only five days later, when his father, an assistant scientist at BARC, Chennai sent his family member to check on them after his wife and son did not respond to calls for several days. Apparently, the teenager stopped responding to his father's calls.
The teenager’s father sent his sister-in-law to check on his wife and son. However, she found the house locked from inside, police said. Later, the scientist reached his home in Gorakhpur, only to find his wife dead.

Superintendent of Police (North) Jitendra Kumar Srivastava said the teenager was found near a Shiva temple and he initially told police and his father that his mother died after a fall. He claimed he locked the house from the outside in panic and wandered aimlessly for four days, police said.
However, the autopsy report contradicted the teenager’s account. “Further investigation raised suspicions as bloodstains were found at two different spots, indicating the body was dragged. CCTV footage confirmed that no outsider had entered the house,” said police.
"During interrogation, the boy confessed on Tuesday evening that on the morning of December 3, his mother asked him to go to school. When he refused, a dispute over money ensued, and his mother threw cash at him in frustration," PTI reported quoting the SSP. “In a fit of rage, he pushed her, causing the fatal injury," Srivastava added. Further probe is underway and the teenager has been sent to a shelter for juveniles.
