In a suspected case of revenge killing, a 40-year-old woman killed an anganwadi boy in Tamil Nadu's Tirunelveli on Monday. The body of the child was recovered from the washing machine at the accused lady's house, reports said.
The accused was identified as Thangammal of Athukurichi village under Radhapuram police limits. Many suspect the woman was suffering from mental illness following the demise of her child, reports said.
Thangammal's child died in a road accident and she blamed the family of one Vignesh who was her neighbour for the tragic incident, Times Of India (TOI) said in a report. Ever since the development, she held a grudge with the family, it added.
On Monday morning, Vignesh's wife Ramya realised that their son Sanjay had gone missing. She couldn't find the child when she looked for him ahead of taking him to the anganwadi. Sanjay was last seen playing near their house before going missing.
As their efforts to spot the child found no results, Vignesh's family alerted Radhapuram police of the development, the daily said. They told the cops of their doubts about Thangammal having a hand in their child going missing.
This resulted in the police team searching the accused's house and finding the lifeless body of the kid. Sanjay's body was kept hidden inside the washing machine. Thangammal had reportedly wrapped the child in a sack before hiding it inside the machine.
While Thangammal's dislike for Sanjay's family was established, it was not confirmed to be the reason that led to the crime. She was taken into custody and is being interrogated. Tamil Nadu Police have not fully ruled out the involvement of more people in the case.
