West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she never offered any money to the family of Kolkata trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. She added that following widespread protests by medicos, Kolkata City Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal had offered resignation.
Addressing presspersons, Banerjee said, “I have never offered money to deceased doctor's family, this is nothing but slander.” The victim's family had alleged a senior Kolkata police officer offered them money and they pushed to conduct the cremation in haste.

Denying the allegations, Banerjee said the government only offered its support to victim’s family if they wished to do anything in their daughter’s memory. “I told deceased doctor's parents that if they wanted to do something in their daughter's memory, our government is with them,” she said.
The Trinamool Congress chief said following protests by doctors, Kolkata City Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal had offered his resignation. “Goyal offered to resign after RG Kar protests, but, we need someone who knows law and order ahead of Durga puja,” The CM said.
Mamata also denied allegations that the requirements of the CISF personnel deployed for security at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital are not being met. “We are fulfilling all the requirements of CISF...this is all a conspiracy hatched by the central government and some leftist parties,” she said.
On Tuesday, Centre’s lawyer told Supreme Court that the three companies of CISF personnel, deployed for security at RG Kar Hospital, were not being provided with adequate accommodation or other necessary security equipment.
