While MVA was battling Covid in Maharashtra, BJP planned a coup: NCP

Health minister Sawant claimed 150 meetings were held between Shinde, Fadnavis

Dharashiv (earlier known as Osmanabad) is a rather unusual place to make explosive political revelations, but Maharashtra health minister Tanaji Sawant chose his home turf to reveal that the process of effecting a change in government in Maharashtra began after Devendra Fadnavis, then leader of opposition and now deputy chief minister, gave instructions to set the ball in motion.

Sawant made this claim two days ago in Dharashiv and said that the process started after BJP and Shiv Sena came together in Osmanabad Zilla parishad despite the fact that two parties were on opposite sides in state politics then as Shiv Sena was part of the ruling MVA while BJP was in opposition.

The alliance in Osmanabad Zilla parishad happened because of Sawant's initiative. According to Sawant, it was this alliance that set the ball rolling for toppling the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government.

"Shinde saheb (CM Eknath Shinde) and myself had close to 150 meetings with BJP leadership (to bring down Thackeray government). I was counseling the MLAs from Vidarbha, Marathwada and western Maharashtra so that they join us," revealed Sawant.

Reacting to sensational claims made by Sawant, NCP's chief spokesperson Mahesh Tapase said: “We know that Dy CM Devendra Fadnavis was behind toppling the MVA government and Fadnavis has publicly accepted of having taken a revenge. Now Tanaji Sawant has confirmed that 150 meetings were held since 2019 between Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis to topple MVA.”

Now it is clear that while the MVA was battling Covid, the entire BJP was focused on toppling our government rather than offering any help during the pandemic, he said.

Tapase further stated: "We were duty bound to protect the lives of millions and our CM, Dy CM and Health Minister were committed to the cause. Our government’s initiative against Covid won accolades for the MVA but little did we know that people with personal ambition were planning a coup even during the pandemic," Tapase stated.

The BJP can never defeat the MVA in a straight electoral contest and hence used Shinde to engineer a split in the Shiv Sena with the sole intention of bringing down the Uddhav Thackeray government, said Tapase.
