While addressing the 97th Edition of 'Mann Ki Baat' on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the citizens to read about the lives and stories of people conferred with 'Padma' Awards.

He pointed out that sizable number of Padma awardees came from tribal communities and people associated with tribal society.

This is the first episode of Mann Ki Baat this year.

"Various people from tribal areas-painters, musicians, farmers, artisans have been conferred with Padma awards...I urge all to read their inspiring stories," said PM Modi during the radio programme.

The challenges of the tribal life that is different from the city life was highlighted by PM.

Great Padma awardees like Toto, Ho, Kui, Kuvi and Manda have worked on tribal languages, he said.

"It is matter of pride for all of us....now the world would know them," Modi said. He also added that people working with Siddi, Jarwa and Onge tribes were awarded this time.

He also said that the domestic patent filings have outscored the country's foreign patent filings as he expressed confidence that India's dream of “techade” will be fulfilled on the strength of its innovators, PTI reported. Earlier, Modi had used the word “techade” to describe the decade dominated by technologies.

India ranks seventh globally when it comes to patent filings, he said. “In the last five years, India's patent registration has gone up by 50 per cent,” Modi said.

"I am confident that India's dream of techade will be fulfilled by its innovators and their patents," he said.

He also highlighted the ill-effects of e-waste and how it will harm the environment if not properly disposed. “About 17 types of precious metals can be extracted from e-waste through different processes and we must ensure to do so,” he said while addressing the nation.
