Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana on Saturday conducted an on-the-spot inspection in the Dhak village of Joshimath affected by the land subsidence.

After the inspection, the Rural Works Department (RWD) was directed to provide a contour map of the land in the Dhak. The Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), will prepare a detailed plan for displacement after taking suggestions from the affected people.

So far 863 buildings have been identified to have developed cracks due to subsidence in Joshimath. According to the DM, out of the 863, 181 buildings have been placed in the unsafe zone, ANI reported.

After the recent heavy snowfall, reports were received that few cracks in the building have widened.

However, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police are on alert in case of any tragedy due to heavy snowfall. All necessary facilities for the affected families are provided, assured the DM. Relief camps are set up for the families affected by the land subsidence.

"Due to heavy snowfall in Joshimath, reports have been received that in a few areas cracks in buildings have widened. Our team is working to provide all the necessary facilities like heaters, hot water, and others," Himanshu Khurana was quoted by ANI.

Meanwhile, Secretary of Disaster Management, Ranjit Kumar Sinha, told reporters that rehabilitation and relief work is going on Joshimath. More than 3.27 crores have been distributed to 218 affected families so far, said Sinha.
