In a shocking revelation, the police have found out that the 23-year-old woman was with her friend in her two-wheeler when the Maruthi Baleno car rammed into her in the Kanjhawala area in Delhi in the early hours of Sunday.

According to a police official, the victim's friend sustained minor injuries but fled the scene out of fear. But, the victim, Anjali Singh, was mowed down by the car driven by the drunk men and her leg got trapped in the axle, after which she was dragged along by the car.

However, the police have traced her friend, who is also seen in CCTV visuals recovered by the police. The friend seems to have confirmed to police that it was indeed an accident, reported The Times Of India.

Officials have also confirmed the second woman's presence at the scene after questioning the people who attended the event with them.

Her statement will reportedly be recorded soon. Meanwhile, the autopsy report of the deceased will be out on Tuesday. The Delhi Police is set to hold a press briefing at 12 pm on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, one of the accused men Deepak Khanna, who was at the wheel, confessed to police that he felt "something was stuck" in the car, but others dismissed him. Anjali's body was dragged by the vehicle through the streets for about 13 kilometres.

The car stopped after another accused Mithun spotted a hand under the vehicle. The accused fled the scene after the body came off.

Meanwhile, a war of words broke out between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena over the incident.

According to AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj, it was rape and murder. He also urged the centre to sack LG VK Saxena and also accused the Delhi Police of covering up the matter.

However, sources with Raj Niwas said the Saxena was doing his duty on December 31, inspecting the Najafgarh Drain. "Yes LG along with NGT Chairman was inspecting the Najafgarh Drain- an abject failure of the AAP government. On December 31, when the world was holidaying… and not only December 31, LG has been out on the roads every day in the discharge of his duties," sources told ANI.

"Even in the present instance, LG has proactively been at the helm since the evening of January 1, when it came to light. Saurabh Bharadwaj should first think and ask himself what LG is doing is far better than going on an incommunicado holiday for 8 days that his Boss and AAP Convenor, Arvind Kejriwal did? what LG is doing is far more responsible than making a two-line self-serving political statement, that the CM of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal did today, at a Bus launch function?" Raj Niwas added.
