Even as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra' is all set to enter Uttar Pradesh on January 3, former UP chief minister and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, on Thursday, set a defiant tone saying his party's ideology was different from the Congress and the BJP.

When asked if he was invited to join the yatra, he said he did not receive an invitation. "The ideology of our party is different. BJP and Congress both are same," he was quoted as saying.

Yadav, however, said his party's sentiments are with the yatra.

The former CM's claims of not receiving an invitation for the yatra comes even as the Congress sources said invitations have been sent to both Yadav and BSP leader Mayawati.

Earlier, media reports said neither Mayawati nor Yadav are likely to join Rahul Gandhi during the yatra.

According to NDTV, SP spokesperson Ghanshyam Tiwari said although the SP supports the idea of Gandhi's yatra, it does not want to give suggestions of a possible alliance between the two parties.

The Congress and the SP had fought the 2017 assembly polls together, but the alliance broke off after their poor performance in the polls.
