Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in the northeastern states of Meghalaya and Tripura on Sunday, where he will inaugurate projects worth ₹6,800 crores. Both these states, along with Nagaland, are headed for Assembly elections early next year.

According to an official statement by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the projects to be launched on Sunday encompass multiple sectors, including housing, road, agriculture, telecom, IT, tourism, and hospitality.

One of the events in the Prime Minister's schedule is the golden jubilee celebration of the North Eastern Council (NEC), established on November 7, 1972. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other dignitaries have already arrived in the Meghalaya capital on Saturday evening for the event.

Modi will chair an NEC meeting at the state convention hall, followed by a programme marking the golden jubilee of the council.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate multiple projects in Shillong, including IIM Shillong at Umsawli. Four road projects across three states - Meghalaya, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh - and the Shillong-Diengpasoh Road will also be inaugurated by Modi on Sunday. The Shillong-Diengpasoh Road is a mega project which will provide better connectivity to the new Shillong satellite township and decongest Shillong.

Security has been tightened in the area near the Polo Grounds here, following the visit of Modi. The venue has been made a 'no-drone zone'.

To boost the telecom connectivity in the region, he will dedicate to the nation 4G mobile towers, of which more than 320 have been completed, and around 890 are under construction.

A spawn laboratory at the Mushroom Development Centre and an integrated beekeeping development centre will also be inaugurated by him in Meghalaya, besides 21 Hindi libraries in Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura and Assam.

The Prime Minister will then head to Agartala where he will launch the 'Grih Pravesh' program for more than two lakh beneficiaries in Agartala under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana--Urban and Rural--schemes, according to the PMO statement.

He will also inaugurate the project for widening of Agartala bypass (Khayerpur - Amtali) NH-08, which will help ease traffic congestion in Agartala city. The foundation stones for 32 roads of more than 230 km in length under PMGSY III (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana) and the improvement of 112 roads covering a distance of over 540 km, will also be laid today.
