Aftab Poonawala, accused of murdering his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar, moved a bail application in Delhi court on Friday. Aftab is currently under judicial custody.
The bail plea will be heard on Saturday, ANI tweeted. Aftab's bail plea comes a day after officials confirmed that the bone samples collected from Mehrauli forest area belong to Shraddha. They have matched with the DNA of Shraddha's father, Vikas Walkar, moving the probe in the case a step further. Responding to the DNA match, Vikas said the family would watch and see what is the next step.
Meanwhile on Thursday, Lt Governor V K Saxena approved a proposal of Delhi Police to appoint two special public prosecutors—Madhukar Pandey and Amit Prasad— in the case. Shraddha was allegedly strangled, and her body sawed into 35 pieces and disposed of in different parts of the capital.
Aftab, who was arrested in November, underwent narco test and multiple rounds of polygraph tests. According to reports, Aftab showed no signs of remorse during the polygraph tests at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Rohini. Though confessions during these tests cannot be produced as evidence in court, these techniques are used by investigating agencies to get to the truth and gather evidence.
Though the probe team has recovered knives allegedly used by Aftab, they are yet to recover his phone or the clothes which Aftab and Shraddha wore on the day of her death.
Aftab met Shraddha on 'Bumble' and started dating each other. They together worked at a call centre in Mumbai before moving to Delhi's Mehrauli earlier this year due to their families' objection to their relationship. The couple were allegedly engaged in frequent arguments after she pressurised him to marry her.
