Ahead of the by-poll election in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party (SP) and BJP lodged complaints with the state chief electoral officer. The SP sought action to stop fake voting while the BJP alleged the rivals were "threatening" people ahead of the voting.

By-elections are set to be held in the Mainpuri parliamentary constituency and Rampur and Khatauli assembly constituencies of Uttar Pradesh on Monday. The counting of votes will take place on December 8.

Mulayam Singh Yadav's elder daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav is the SP candidate in Mainpuri while BJP has fielded Raghuraj Singh Shakya, a former confidant of Mulayam's brother Shivpal Singh Yadav.

SP in a memorandum raised the issue of fake voting prevailing in Rampur Sadar assembly segment while BJP urged the chief electoral officer to address the issue of "anarchic elements" of its rivals in Mainpuri constituency. In view of these issues, BJP requested tight security in the constituency.

BJP also alleged that SP had violated the Code of Conduct in Mainpuri.

Meanwhile, SP has demanded that "100 per cent voter slips should be distributed in Muslim-dominated areas and the process of harassment of its workers be stopped in Rampur Sadar", according to the party's statement.

Also, by-polls are held in Padampur in Odisha, Sardarshahar in Rajasthan, Kurhani in Bihar and Bhanupratappur in Chhattisgarh assembly seats.
