The National Investigation Agency (NIA), on Friday, filed a charge sheet against three persons in Poonamallee court in the Salem arms case. The charge sheet has been filed relating to the seizure of arms, ammunition and explosives in Omalur near Salem in May this year.

The case relates to the recovery of two country-made pistols, gunpowder and ammunition from three persons, Naveen Chakravarthy, Sanjay Prakash and A. Kabilar, who were inspired by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), the Sri Lankan outfit which is banned in India.

The trio had formed an armed movement called the World Tamil Justice Court (WTJC) like LTTE to wage a war against the government. According to the NIA charge sheet, the trio had plans to attack people who worked in the quarries, crushers and TASMAC liquor shops in and around Salem. They also had plans to destroy public property using explosives, weapons and illegal firearms.

They were planning to launch the attack on May 18, on Mulliwaikkal remembrance day, observed by the Sri Lankan Tamils as a mark of remembrance for those who were killed in the civil war.

The charge sheet says the accused believed that such an attack would spread fear among the people and convey the message that an organistion like LTTE can be revamped and resurrected in Tamil Nadu.

The three men were arrested by the Omalur police during a vehicle check in May this year.
