Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's security has been beefed up following intelligence inputs about a threat to his life. Security has also been stepped up at Shinde's private residence in Thane and his official residence 'Varsha' in Mumbai.

Shinde, who already enjoys a Z Plus category security cover, is scheduled to address his first Dussehra rally as the chief minister at MMRDA ground in Mumbai on October 5.

State Intelligence Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbre has confirmed the threat inputs and said additional security has been provided to the chief minister.

"After specific information, we have taken necessary action and have increased the security of the chief minister,"  Dumbre told PTI.

Shinde, talking to reporters, said he had received death threats from naxalites and anti-national elements even before he became the chief minister. “I am a man of masses and no one can stop me from being among people," he said.

According to ANI, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has asked the Director General of Police (DGP), Mumbai Commissioners of Police (CP) and Intelligence Commissioner to put a high-level team to find out the culprit.

Shinde had received a threat letter in last October when he was  the Urban Development Minister and also guardian minister of Gadchiroli district, affected by Naxalism.

Shinde was sworn in as the chief minister on June 30 after he led a rebellion against the Shiv Sena leadership, which resulted in the collapse of the Uddhav Thackeray government.
