Arvind Kejriwal has promised 300 units of free electricity per month, Rs 3,000 monthly allowance to the unemployed youth and much more, should the Aam Aadmi Party come to power in Gujarat. On Wednesday, the AAP convener guaranteed Rs 1,000 per month in the account of all women above the age of 18 years and that too by painting a word picture.

Connecting with a large audience, comprising mainly women, just less than 13 kilometers away from the BJP’s state headquarters Shri Kamalam, Kejriwal painted a picture of how the amount will be beneficial to the women and their families and how it will help the economy grow.

Kejriwal, who is going neck and neck with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the number of visits to Gujarat, said that a lot has been thought over before taking this decision and all women, who wish to get the amount, will be given Rs 1,000 per month.

Emphasizing that it is not a revdi (freebie), the AAP leader said that it is your right and the economy will grow if the money comes in the hands of the common man. “Economy does not progress if the money goes in the hands of the rich. The common man will buy stuff from the money given, there will be demand and new factories will come up,” he remarked.

Talking about how it would benefit the women, he said young women will be able to complete education, which they are not able to do for want of transport fees or college fees. Women, he said, will be able to bring good food and fruits for their children. Inflation is increasing but the salaries aren’t increasing, he said. He felt that it is also one of the ways to tackle malnutrition.

Being at the helm of affairs in Delhi, Kejriwal also seems to have mastered in what touches the heart the most. “When daughters come home, mothers will not have to look up to their son or husband for money. She will go and open the box and hand over some money to the daughter,” he said.

The AAP convener claimed that there is no dearth of money but the desired results can be achieved by running a non-corrupt government. He pointed out how in Punjab, in the first three months, the government collected more taxes as compared to the corresponding period last year.

“People used to say that nothing will happen in Gujarat. It is the BJP’s stronghold. However, as we move in the state we have realized that people are fed up with 27 years of the BJP’s rule and want it to be dethroned,” he claimed.

In reply to a letter written to him by a daughter of a policeman, Kejriwal exhorted the police to continue to do their duty and wherever possible support the AAP. Among other things, the girl had mentioned that Gujarat’s police are being paid the least. Kejriwal assured that the Gujarat police will get the best salary, at par with the best in the country, should the AAP come to power.

In reply to a question from the media, Kejriwal said that the change of government in Bihar indicates that the BJP is getting egoist. He refused to answer questions on 2024 Lok Sabha elections and probable prime ministerial candidates. “We will look at it when the time comes. It is one and a half years away,” he said.
