IMD predicts heavy rainfall over Central India, Northeast

Red alert issued for Maharashtra, Odisha, Chattisgarh

The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted widespread rainfall over Northeastern states, West Bengal, and Maharashtra during the next few days.

A 'red alert' has been issued for north Konkan, north central Maharashtra, east and west Vidarbha. Mumbai witnessed heavy rains coupled with strong winds on Tuesday.

In its daily bulletin, IMD has predicted widespread rainfall coupled with thunderstorms and lightning between August 9 and 13 over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha; Arunachal Pradesh; Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Fairly widespread rainfall coupled with thunderstorms and lightning has been predicted between August 9 and 13 over Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Konkan and Goa, Vidarbha and ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Marathwada. 

Fairly widespread rainfall has been predicted likely over Telangana and ghat areas of Tamil Nadu, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Coastal Karnataka, over interior Karnataka and Kerala and Mahe between August 9 and 13. Very heavy rainfall has been predicted over Uttarakhand on Wednesday.
