A very notable inclusion would be former BJP leader Babul Supriyo

Mamata Banerjee is all set to change her cabinet today.

After the exit of Partha Chatterjee, who was holding three cabinet portfolios, there would be new faces in the cabinet. Several ministers would be dropped as well.

The rejig is being done jointly by Mamata and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee and many Abhishek loyalists might get plum posts.

A very notable inclusion would be former BJP leader and union minister Babul Supriyo.

The departments which would get new faces are the controversial education department, Industry and Commerce, panchayat, parliament affairs, information and culture along with a strong chance of having a cabinet finance minister. West Bengal does not have a finance minister of cabinet rank, which is rare in India.

Among the leaders, sources said, South 24 Paraganas and North Bengal will get prominence.

Two cabinet ministers might be taken from North Bengal and three from South 24 paraganas from where Abhishek is an MP. Also, Hooghly and North 24 Paraganas would get a couple of ministers.

The allocation will lead to several officers from the department having a connection with Partha Chatterjee.

Is Mamata trying to dust her hands off 'Partha da'?

"Not really as he has been a long-term associate of her. But yes, the party will avoid Partha for the time being, thanks to Abhishek," said a leader of TMC.
