“If one wants to understand Prime Minister Narendra Modi, one has to look at three decades of his life prior to him becoming the chief minister (of Gujarat). He spent the time in organisation, working among the poor, which came to be reflected in his policies becoming pro-poor and inclusive,” Home Minister Amit Shah said, recalling his association with Modi. He was speaking during the launch of the book 'Modi@20: Dreams Meet Delivery' which contains essays from eminent personalities detailing Modi's contributions to the country's polity.

“Modi has proved the axiom blood is thicker than water, wrong. No one even knows or can recall names of PM's relatives. That his contribution to the public life,” Shah said.

Modi completed 20 in governance since he became chief minister of Gujarat in 2001. “There is no bigger listener than Modi. He can sit and listen attentively for hours. He can even catch people who have changed their statements after five years,” Shah said. He recalled Modi's contributions to key sectors like health, education, agriculture and security.

The book, brought out by BlueKraft Digital Foundation which had brought out books on Modi earlier as well, was launched by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu at Vigyan Bhawan. Senior cabinet ministers, Bollywood personalities, and intellectuals were in attendance at the function.

Naidu played glowing tributes to Modi in his address. “Even his detractors agree that PM Modi is now a phenomenon at the national and international level due to which India is being regarded and respected,” he said.

The vice president called Modi a “scientist” for extending at the national level various schemes that were successfully implemented when he was the chief minister of Gujarat, based on results, enabling evidence-based formulation of projects and schemes.

On Modi being called an election machine, Naidu said for Modi, elections are not an outcome of politics but constitute a social science with deep understanding of the life contexts of common people and deep insight into their aspirations, making him a successful campaigner.

Naidu lauded Modi's contribution in deepening of democracy in the country by arousing people’s interest in every election by proving himself as the one who delivers on promises made and thereby living up to the hopes and aspirations of the people. He described the politics of Modi as one of “hope.”

“The ability, mobility and stability (with required majority in the Lok Sabha) of Prime Minister Modi is leading India to prosperity”.

He recalled his association with Modi, saying the latter was impatient with tardy implementation of policies and schemes as he is keen on scale and speed of execution since India is still facing developmental gaps in the 75th year of Independence.

Naidu said Modi is all about the mission of making of developed India and urged all the parties in power in different states to make effective use of all available developmental and democratic platforms to make the nation surge ahead.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also recalled first association with Modi when the former was ambassador in China. “He wanted a briefing on security situation with China. Years later, PM Modi has made our foreign policy security focused. He brought terrorism at the centre of global debate. India is no longer a country which will shy away from presenting its security position.”
