An Assam woman cop has arrested a man, who was engaged to her, on charges of cheating.
The accused Rana Pogag claimed that he was a public relations officer of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and allegedly duped many people of lakhs of rupees by promising them jobs in the government-owned-oil and gas explorer and producer.
Junmoni Rabha, inspector-in-charge of Nagaon police women cell, got suspicious after learning from informers about the frauds committed by her fiancé. She checked his bag and found some fake seals and documents of the ONGC. After confirming that he was involved in these crimes, she filed an FIR and arrested him. He has been remanded to police custody for two days.
While serving in the island district of Majuli, Rabha got engaged to Pogag on October 8. Before the engagement, family members of the accused had visited her residence and everything went on as normal.
Pogag was moving around in an SUV with his driver security personnel to look like an ONGC official. She started doubting him when she found that he was not attending his office.
She came to know more about the true character of Pogag after some people gave her some information. She thanked the three people who gave her information about Rana Pogag.
