The Congress on Monday released a list of 30 star campaigners for the first phase of Uttar Pradesh polls. The list included party president Sonia Gandhi and former prime minister Manmohan Singh.

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Bhupinder Singh and RPN Singh are also in the list. Other party leaders who will be campaigning for the first phase of polls include Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, his Chhattisgarh counterpart Bhupesh Baghel and former JNU students union leader Kanhaiya Kumar.

Congress will hold virtual rallies and door-to-door campaign in the state since the Election Commission has banned big physical rallies in view of the surging Covid-19 cases.

According to an ANI report, the senior party leaders will address small meetings as permitted by the election authorities following all Covid-19 protocols.

The party is going to the polls with the focus on youth and women and has announced that it will reserve 40 per cent of tickets for women in Uttar Pradesh.

Polling for the 403-member Uttar Pradesh assembly is scheduled to be held in seven phases from February 10 to March 7. The votes will be counted on March 10.
