India's third case of the new Omicron variant of Covid-19 has been confirmed after a man who travelled from Zimbabwe was found to be infected.

The Gujarat health department has said that a 72-year-old man was found to be infected in Jamnagar city of Gujarat today.

“We've isolated him and are monitoring him. A micro-containment zone has been made where he is living. In the area, we will do the tracing and testing of people,” said Manoj Aggarwal, ACS, health and family welfare department, Gujarat.

The Omicron variant has been marked as a “variant of concern” by the World Health Organization.

The two previous cases were from Bengaluru—a South African national who arrived in India with a negative COVID-19 report, and a doctor with no travel history.

The government had said that 373 cases of Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 have been detected in 29 nations so far and India was monitoring the situation.
