Rights activist and chairman of International Forum for Justice Human Right Muhammad Ahsan Untoo has demanded a probe into civilian killings in the controversial Hyderpora operation by security forces.

In a statement, Untoo appreciated the administration’s decision to return bodies of the two civilians. He said that burial of bodies is a ‘constitutional right of the people of Kashmir’.  He added that the bodies of all combatant and non-combatants that were snatched by the government should be returned to their fathers and mothers. Returning bodies should not be portrayed as a favour, Untoo said in the statement.

The body of Amir Ahmad Magarey who was killed in the Hyderpora encounter should be returned to his family, he said, adding that bodies of Muzaffar Shaikh, Junaid Ashraf Khan, class 7 student Mosin Akmal, Aijaz Muqbool, zubair Ahmad Lone, Irfan Ahmad, Athar Mushtaq Wani, Aijaz Maqbool should also be handed over for a dignified burial.

Untoo said that taking away the bodies would not help maintain law-and-order as claimed by the government. It smacks of callousness and violates constitutional and human values, he stated.

He also called for a full-fledged probe into the civilian killings and sought justice for the family of victims.
