Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has called a meeting of the health ministers of states and Union territories on Wednesday to review the progress of the COVID-19 vaccination.

The Centre has asked the states and UTs to speed up the vaccination drive with focus on the second doses. The direction came in the backdrop of the country achieving the milestone of administering 100 crore doses on October 21.

Quoting sources, ANI reported that though the country has in stock 11 crore vaccine doses of both Covishield and Covaxin, more than 10 crore people have still not taken their second dose.

The Centre wants to accelerate the inoculation drive as it has planned to vaccinate all the eligible population by the end of the year.

India’s cumulative COVID-19 vaccination coverage exceeded 102.94 crore on Tuesday with over 64.75 lakh doses being administered in the last 24 hours.

According to the Union health ministry, more than 107.22 crore vaccine doses have been provided to states and UTs so far through the government's free-of-cost channel and through direct state procurement category.

"More than 12.37 crore balance and unutilized COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states and UTs to be administered," the ministry said.
