West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on Monday evening, a day after he was diagnosed with malaria.

Reports said Dhankhar, 70, caught fever from Darjeeling during his two-week visit to north Bengal from October 12. Doctors had advised him to go for a blood test.

Dhankhar reached Delhi on Friday and was staying at Bang Bhavan. On Saturday, he underwent a blood test, the result of which came on Sunday.

At AIIMS, the governor is being treated by a team of doctors led by Dr Neeraj Nischal, the Professor of Medicine. Doctors said his vitals are stable for now.

Dhankhar, a former MP and Union minister, was appointed governor of West Bengal on July 30, 2019.

He has been at loggerheads with the Mamata Banerjee government over several issues and the faceoff escalated following the post-poll violence.
