Trinamool Congress MP Sushmita Dev's vehicle was vandalised and a few members of poll strategist Prashant Kishor’s Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) were attacked in Tripura’s Amtuli on Friday. Dev is overseeing the party's activities in Tripura and I-PAC is helping the TMC with its election campaigns.

The TMC alleged that the BJP was behind the attack. Visuals of the incident have gone viral.

"During our outreach programme, some goons attacked our cars, they beat our workers. It is clear that BJP is 'Bharatiya Gunda Party'. CM Biplab Deb is giving them protection, the attackers didn't even bother to cover their faces. CM is a useless fellow," news agency ANI quoted Dev as saying.

"Sushmita Dev along with 10 other party workers of TMC were brutally attacked by workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party at Amtali bazar around 1:30 pm. The perpetrators vandalised vehicles, physically assaulted workers of the TMC and outraged the modesty of female party workers," the party said in a police complaint, reports NDTV.

TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee hit out at the saffron party over the attack saying the BJP is "setting new records" with the attack on political opponents.

"Physically manhandling a sitting female Rajya Sabha MP, @SushmitaDevAITC is BEYOND SHAMEFUL & POLITICAL TERRORISM by  @BJP4Tripura goons! The time is near. People of Tripura will answer!," he said in a tweet.

Where is democracy, asked the Tripura unit of the TMC in a tweet, and questioned the silence of Home Minister Amit Shah on the issue. "What about the safety and security of people in Tripura? Where is Democracy," the party asked.
