Uttar Pradesh minister Upendra Tiwari, on Thursday, came out with a claim that 95 per cent of the people in the country do not need petrol.

Tiwari, the minister of state for sports and youth affairs and panchayat raj, said only a handful of people use four-wheeler vehicles and need petrol.

He further said the Union government has given free COVID-19 vaccination to 100 crore people across the country, and offered treatment and medicine for free to people suffering from the pandemic.

He cited a list of things that the government has been offering for free to people, including medicine and education.

When asked if the fuel prices are on the increase because the government has been offering things for free to people, the minister said the prices haven't increased and added that if you compare the prices with per capita income, fuel prices are very low now.
