Days after he declared he would accept any decision of the Gandhi family on the situation in the Punjab Congress unit, Navjot Singh Sidhu has published contents of a letter he wrote to party chief Sonia Gandhi.

Sidhu tweeted on Sunday contents of a detailed letter he wrote to Sonia, which was dated October 15.

In the letter, Sidhu credited Sonia's leadership for the two-thirds majority victory in the 2017 Punjab Assembly election.

Sidhu claimed the Congress had won 53 of the 55 Assembly constituencies he had campaigned in. Sidhu claimed that based on his deliberations with party workers and his "deep understanding of public sentiment over 17 years of public life… this is Punjab's last chance of resurrection and redemption".

Sidhu emphasised the relevance of the 18-point agenda agreed with then chief minister Amarinder Singh in July.

Sidhu noted Punjab had been the richest state of the country for decades, but was now the most indebted state. He alleged it was "submerged under lakhs of crores of debt due to gross financial mismanagement over last 25 years". Sidhu also highlighted the problems of vacancies of government jobs and poor salaries for schoolteachers.

Sidhu presented a 13-point agenda of issues that needed urgent action, including justice for the 2015 sacrilege case, the drug menace, need for agriculture reform, provision of free power and cancellation of power-purchase agreements.

In the letter, Sidhu asked Sonia to give "your august direction" to the state government to act on the issues immediately. The demand indicates that Sidhu's problems with the Charanjit Singh Channi government remain unresolved.

Sidhu sought a "personal audience" with Sonia to discuss the 13-point agenda.
