Former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah had an embarrassing moment during an assembly session when his dhoti came undone mid-speech.

The leader of the opposition was speaking on the Mysuru rape case when the state Congress president walked up to him and whispered something in his ear.

Siddaramaiah seemed to have taken it in his stride and said aloud: “Oh yeah?” as he sat down and the official feed of the session cut to a long shot.

“My panche (dhoti) has slipped,” the Congress leader announced, and the house broke into laughter. “I will fix it and then continue my speech,” he said, with a smirk.

Even BJP MLA Kumar Bangarappa, who was in the speaker's chair, laughed uncontrollably.

On the feed, one can hear a back-bencher joking aloud that Siddaramaiah need not worry as there was nobody sitting in front of him.

Joining in the banter, BJP minister K.S. Eshwarappa offered to help Siddaramaiah, but the latter riposted that he would never take help from the ruling party.

While tying the dhoti, he quipped that he had gained weight during the pandemic and his dhotis don't stay in place now.

“My dhoti never slipped before. But after Covid, I put on four to five kilos. My belly has bulged,” he joked.

The incident took place when Siddaramaiah was criticising the functioning of the police force following the Mysuru gang-rape.
