Rakesh Tikait, national spokesperson for the Bhartiya Kisan Union, on Friday attempted to take the ongoing farmers' protests near Delhi global, again, by appealing to US President Joe Biden.

Biden is scheduled to hold his first in-person meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi after assuming office as president. Biden is expected to meet with Modi at the White House at 11am local time on Friday.

Tikait, considered one of the most recognisable faces of the farmers' protests since last year, tagged Biden in a tweet.

Tikait wrote, "Dear @POTUS, we the Indian Farmers are protesting against 3 farm laws brought by PM Modi's govt. 700 farmers have died in the last 11 months protesting. These black laws should be repealed to save us. Please focus on our concern while meeting PM Modi. #Biden_SpeakUp4Farmers."

Hundreds of farmers have been on continuous protest on Delhi's borders with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, demanding a roll-back of three agricultural reform laws passed in September last year.

The farmers' protests had made headlines after pop singer Rihanna tweeted about them. Democratic activist Meena Harris, the niece of US Vice President Kamala Harris, had also tweeted in support of the farmers' protests.
