The closest disciple of late Mahant Narendra Giri, president of Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad, has been arrested in connection with the alleged suicide of the influential Hindu seer.

Narendra Giri was found dead on Monday at Baghambari Math in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh.

According to media reports, Narendra Giri and his disciple Anand Giri had a falling out in May. An AFIR was filed against Anand Giri after the death of Narendra Giri. Anand Giri was detained from Haridwar on Monday and was arrested later.

Anand Giri was expelled from the math by his mentor over allegations of financial irregularities. Although the two made peace later, the police suspect that this did not last long, reports NDTV.

According to a News18 report, after the police detained him, Anand Giri said his mentor would never take the extreme step and claimed that there was foul play in the death and alleged that many members of the math may have a hand in the death.

In a press statement after his mentor's death, Anand Giri had said there was no misunderstanding between him and the deceased and added that the death was the result of conspiracy hatched by those who allegedly misused the math's funds.

The deceased, in his alleged seven-page 'suicide note', held Anand Giri and two others responsible for his death.
