Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar, on Tuesday, cautioned people against grand Ganesh Chaturthi festivities saying the third wave of the pandemic is not coming, but it is already here.

Urging the people to celebrate the festival at their homes, she came up with a slogan 'Mera Ghar, Mera Bappa'.

The mayor also asked people not to be lax with COVID-19 protocols and to avoid large gatherings.

In the first six days of September, Mumbai has recorded over 28 per cent of the total COVID-19 cases that it had reported during the entire last month, as per civic data. On Monday, Mumbai reported 379 new coronavirus cases and five fatalities, taking the tally of infections to 7,46,725 and the death toll to 15,998. The city is now left with 3,771 active COVID-19 cases.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray too has asked people to avoid holding public gatherings. "Political parties including the Shiv Sena should avoid public gatherings in view of the coronavirus threat. We should set an example for people by observing discipline," he said.
