The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday said the Uttar Pradesh government led by Yogi Adityanath did not need a certificate from former chief minister and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav. The saffron party’s reaction came in the wake of the SP leader’s remarks that he did not trust the UP police on the arrest of two Al-Qaeda terrorists in Lucknow on July 12.

"Akhilesh Yadav wants the persons who hail Pakistan should be released. He wants the government to support those who molest women. He wants a government where fathers of the leaders say if a man is raping a woman it is merely a mistake and people should forgive him,” said BJP national general secretary Dushyant Gautam, reported ANI.

The Anti-Terrorist Squad of the UP Police claimed it had arrested two terrorists belonging to Al-Qaeda supported 'Ansar Ghazwatul Hind' from the outskirts of Lucknow. Explosive material was also recovered from them.

Raising questions over the police’s claim, Yadav had said: “We cannot rely on Uttar Pradesh police, especially under the BJP government”.

BSP supremo Mayawati had also raised questions on UP police's claim of the arrest, saying such an action ahead of Assembly polls leads to doubts in the minds of people.

Meanwhile, reacting to Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s criticism over the safety of women in the state, Gautam said the Congress should not do politics on the basis of colour, caste or religion.
