Batting for religious harmony, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat said there cannot be dominance of Muslims or Hindus in a democracy.

At an event organised by the Muslim wing of the Sangh, Muslim Rashtriya Manch, he said, "There can only be dominance of Indians."

Condemning incidents of mob lynching, the RSS chief said those engaging in such acts of violence are against Hindutava.

He pointed out that the term "Hindu-Muslim unity" is misleading because Hindus and Muslims are essentially one as the DNA of both these sections of people are the same.

"It has been proven that are descendants of the same ancestors from the last 40,000 years. People of India have same DNA. Hindu and Muslim are not two groups, there is nothing to unite, they are already together," news agency ANI quoted him as saying.

"There are some works that politics can’t do. Politics can't unite people. Politics can’t become tool to unite people but can become a weapon to distort unity," he further said.
