Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, on Wednesday, took a dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, saying even great minds like Aryabhata and Aristotle would bow down before the Congress leader for his knowledge.

He was reacting to Gandhi's remark that said India needs quick and complete vaccination and not the BJP's "brand of lies and rhyming slogans" to cover up the vaccine shortage caused by the government's inaction. The Congress leader had also tagged a report that said the government doubled the gap between the two doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine without the agreement of the experts, with his tweet.

"#COVISHIELD The decision to increase the interval between doses is based on transparent and scientific evidence, but rich in incredible talent. @INCIndia yuvraj shree @RahulGandhi Even scholars like Aryabhata and Aristotle should bow down in front of Ji's knowledge," the Union minister tweeted in Hindi.

The agenda of spreading confusion on the vaccine will no longer work, he further said.

Meanwhile, the Union health ministry on Wednesday dismissed media reports claiming there was dissent from technical experts about increasing the gap between two Covishield doses and said the decision was based on scientific reason about the behaviour of adenovector vaccines.

The Centre on May 13 had approved extending the gap between the two doses of the Covishield vaccine from six to eight weeks to 12 to 16 weeks following a recommendation from the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI).
