Identical twins Joefred Varghese Gregory and Ralfred George Gregory from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh died hours apart, a few weeks after contracting COVID-19.

The brothers, who were together in everything—both did computer engineering and managed to get jobs in Hyderabad—also caught COVID-19 on the same day, on April 24, a day after their birthday. They passed away hours apart after a long battle with the pandemic, on May 13 and 14, reports Times of India.

The twins, sons of a teacher-couple, were initially treated at home, but had to be admitted to the hospital after their Oxygen levels dropped.

Their father, Gregory Raymond Raphael, said he almost knew if they make it, they would do it together, or they would not, as that was how the twins were from birth—together in everything.

On the evening of May 13, their mother got a call from the hospital saying Joefred had died. "Doctors were planning to move hem from the COVID-19 ward to the normal ICU. However, I requested the hospital to monitor their health for two more days in the COVID ward. Then, suddenly, on the evening of May 13, my wife got the call. Our world crashed,” Raphael said.

A few hours later, Ralfred called his mother and said he was recovering and asked about his brother's health. As the family did not want him to know about his brother's demise, they told him that Joefred was being shifted to a hospital in Delhi. But Ralfred sensed something was wrong and told his mother, "You are lying." He died in the morning on May 14.
