Indian Youth Congress president B.V. Srinivas was on Friday questioned by Delhi Crime Branch on the COVID relief work undertaken by him and his team. The questioning was in connection with alleged “illegal distribution of Covid medicines, etc”, media reports quoting police.

The police team arrived at the Indian Youth Congress office in Delhi to question the party workers. The Congress party has alleged that the police were sent by Home Minister Amit Shah. "Typical of the Modi-Shah duo - Do nothing to help suffering millions & stop anyone from doing so too," the Congress tweeted.

"The rescuer is always greater than the one who kills," Rahul Gandhi tweeted in support of the IYC chief.

"Today, every person in this country will have to decide whether it is a crime to deliver oxygen in trouble, is it a crime to help a person dying while taking Remedesivir injection, is it a crime to deliver medicines? Narendra Modi seems to have said that yes, it is a crime," Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said.

Police had earlier approached AAP MLA Dilip Pandey in connection with the same issue. Police claim that they are acting on the court’s directions. A writ petition was filed in the Delhi High Court about politicians involved in the illegal distribution of Covid medicines. The court had directed Delhi Police to conduct an enquiry, reports said.

However, Srinivas said he was not scared and won't stop helping people. "They wanted to know the details of how we are helping people. We answered all their questions," Srinivas said. "We have not done anything wrong, if our smallest efforts can help save a life we will not stop or be scared of such PILs," he added.

Srinivas has become synonymous with Covid-19 relief work in the national capital. His Twitter account has been among the most active in responding to Covid-related SOS.

There is a team of about 100 people that has been divided into smaller teams looking at the different issues of demands, deliveries, hospital and supplier coordination, etc.
