BJP chief J.P. Nadda hit out at the Congress for politicising the fight against coronavirus and questioning Modi government's handling of the crisis. Nadda wrote to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, saying that top leaders of the grand old party should stop misleading people and creating panic.

Nadda's missive came a day after the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meet criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over management of the coronavirus crisis. In a resolution passed at the Congress meeting, the opposition party said: "The prime minister must atone for his mistakes and commit to serving the people instead of carrying on with personal agenda, oblivious to the suffering all around.”

BJP chief Nadda, in his scathing response, said: "The conduct of topmost Congress leaders, including former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, will be remembered for duplicity and pettiness. Your party, under your leadership, is doing no favours to itself by opposing lockdowns and then demanding the same, ignoring the Centre's advisories on the second wave of coronavirus and then saying they did not get any information, holding massive election rallies in Kerala causing a spike in coronavirus cases, while grandstanding about elections rallies elsewhere, supporting protests but speaking about following COVID guidelines.”

Nadda detailed the measures undertaken by the Modi government in the fight against the coronavirus. At the same time, he questioned Congress leaders for participating in super-spreaders events in North India.

The Congress had criticised Modi and Shah for participating in massive rallies in West Bengal as the COVID infection spread.

Hitting back to Congress, Nadda further wrote: "The data from February and March would reveal which states failed to track the rising cases. Why are mortality rates in states such as Punjab so high? These are the questions you must ask your own chief ministers." He also questioned the Congress and its chief ministers for questioning the vaccine developed within the country which led to vaccine hesitancy among people.

The BJP chief countered Congress criticism over the development of Central Vista. Nadda said the need for a new Parliament was first raised during the UPA regime. "People are also contrasting the Congress stand on Central Vista with the Chhattisgarh government going ahead to build a new assembly complex."

He accused the Congress of weakening the morale of the COVID warriors. "Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India's fight against the pandemic is driven by unwavering belief in principles of science, support to innovation, trust in our warriors and cooperative federalism," he said.
