With 773 COVID-19 deaths, Maharashtra registers highest single-day toll

The state has also reported 66,836 new cases

Maharashtra, on Friday, reported biggest-ever single-day toll of 773 deaths due to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. The state has also registered 66,836 new cases.

As many as 74,045 patients were discharged on Friday, taking the total number people who have recovered to 34,04, 792. The recovery rate in the state is 81.81 per cent.

With 9,863 cases, Pune continues to top the list of cities having the most number of cases, followed by Nagpur (7,970). 

Mumbai's recoveries surpassed new cases on Friday, with 9,541 people testing negative, while 7,221 new cases were reported from the city. Mumbai's recovery rate is 84 per cent, while the daily case growth rate stands at 1.31 per cent. With 41,826 samples being examined in the last 24 hours, the number of tests in Mumbai went up to 51,63,852, as per civic data.

On Thursday, the state had reported 67,013 new coronavirus cases and 568 deaths. 

The state had already imposed severe restrictions on non-essential services till the end of the month. A few days ago, it also announced further restricted timings for shops selling essential goods, like groceries and dairies, and for fruit vendors.

The series of restrictions imposed in the state include 15 per cent attendance in private and government offices, which are not directly involved in managing the pandemic.
