Amid surge in cases, vaccines reported stolen from Haryana

1,270 doses of Covishield and 440 of Covaxin were stolen

Amid a record surge in coronavirus cases, shipments of vaccines were reported stolen from Haryana. 1,710 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, including 1,270 of Covishield and 440 of Covaxin, were looted from PPC centre at Civil Hospital in Jind, news agency ANI reported. 

Haryana on Wednesday had recorded the biggest daily jump of 9,623 coronavirus cases and 45 fatalities that pushed the state's infection tally to 3,81,247 and the death toll to 3,528, a health department bulletin said. Among the districts that reported a big spike in cases are Gurgaon (2,988), Faridabad (1,339), Sonipat (960), Karnal (548), Hisar (664) and Panipat (548), it said. The latest deaths include five each from Faridabad, Sonipat, Hisar, Panchkula and Jind, and four each from Gurgaon, Karnal and Bhiwani. The number of active COVID-19 cases in Haryana stands at 55,422. So far, 3,22,297 people have recovered and the state has a recovery rate of 84.54 per cent, the bulletin said.

So far, total vaccinations across the country crossed 13.22 crore with more than 21.21 lakh vaccine doses being given till 8pm on Wednesday, the Union health ministry said. The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country stands at 13,22,40,352 as per the 8pm provisional report. These include 92,19,080 healthcare workers (HCWs) who have taken the first dose and 58,51,361 HCWs who have taken the second dose, 1,16,28,882 frontline workers (FLWs) who have received the first dose and 59,32,541 FLWs who have taken the second dose.
