Even as the COVID-19 cases continue to with its upward swing, the Centre said the previous highest surge had already crossed and the tread is going upward and called it "a case for worry."

Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan, on Tuesday, said the daily deaths too are showing an increasing trend. "However, the previous surge's highest point was 1,114 and presently we have reported 879 deaths," he said.

Bhushan said the weekly positivity in case of Chhattisgarh is increasing. From 1.5 per cent to it has increased to almost 28 per cent, and said this was a cause for concern.

"In Maharashtra, you will find that average daily cases, week on week, have grown significantly and reached a level of 57,000 plus. Tests per million population is growing but not keeping pace with growth of average daily cases. If you look at share of RT-PCR tests, it is progressively coming down," ANI quoted him as saying.

The Union health secretary said in Uttar Pradesh too, the number of cases have gone up alarmingly, from average 89 cases a day to 10,000 cases a day. "The average daily RT-PCR tests are around 45 to 44 per cent, so they also need to be ramped up. The weekly positivity is below 5 per cent, i.e. 4.84 per cent, but it is showing a rising trend."
